Making Cancer Vaccines a Reality at St. Luke’s Hospital Lee B. Riley, MD, PhD The vast majority of vaccines have proven effective during the early phase of infection – a time when there are only a small number of bacteria or viruses present. Currently, there are over 30 breast cancer vaccines being tested in women with advanced (metastatic) breast cancer. We are testing our breast vaccines during the early phases of cancer – a time when we think it has the best chance to work.
